I visited one of my oldest friends in Bloemfontein a few weeks ago and as we were driving around the town of my alma mater, she turned to me and said:
“I’m going to take you to Iewers Nice”.
(Iewers is the Afrikaans word for somewhere).
Imagine my confusion when I thought that my friend is taking me somewhere nice. Why would anyone take someone somewhere not-so-nice?
After a minute, a lot of uncertainty and a bit of explanation, I realised that Iewers Nice (or Somewhere Nice) is actually a restaurant in Bloemfontein.
Who would’ve guessed?
It’s no secret that I like my coffee big and strong and my coffee shops cute, quirky and unique and Iewers Nice did not only live up to my expectations, but it lived up to its name.
Something nicer you won’t easily find in Bloemfontein.
Iewers Nice in Bloemfontein
The atmosphere of Iewers Nice is a delightful combination of having coffee at your bestie’s house, a Sunday dinner around your grandmother’s kitchen table and a cheese and wine at a top notch urban art exhibition; all in one place.
It’s a place where nothing is plain and ordinary. Everything is idiosyncratic with colourful, bright decorations and tasteful pieces or art bouncing off the walls and dangling from the ceilings.
The ambiance of serenity is inspiring.
The menu is an experience.
The food is refreshing with an oriental twist, an European flair and a South African background.
And the rest is remarkably, uhm… NICE!
There is an experience waiting for you under the big patio of a suburban street in Bloemfontein. Staff with friendly smiles and quirky sense of humours, scrumptious food, sweet sherry and fragrant brews await you somewhere nice at Iewers Nice!
